It is a Semi-Urban constituency with an approximate literacy rate of 79.14%. There are 16,02,849 voters of which 8,31,318 are male and 7,71,515 are female and 16 voters of the third gender.
Tapas Mandal of TMC (alliance: Others) won in this seat defeating CPM. TMC polled 5,90,451 of the total of 13,53,197 votes polled. TMC won the seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
Ranaghat goes to the polls in the 4st phase of the 2019 General Elections to choose the 17th Lok Sabha on Monday, April 29, 2019. The election results for the seat are scheduled for Thursday, May 23, 2019.
