It is a Rural constituency with an approximate literacy rate of 68.4%. There are 17,76,567 voters of which 9,45,340 are male and 8,31,100 are female and 127 voters of the third gender.
Bhola Singh of BJP (alliance: NDA) won in this seat defeating BSP. BJP polled 6,04,449 of the total of 10,09,710 votes polled. SP won the seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
