It is a Rural constituency with an approximate literacy rate of 66.53%. There are 13,46,683 voters of which 6,91,369 are male and 6,55,285 are female and 29 voters of the third gender.
Sakuntala Laguri of BJD (alliance: Others) won in this seat defeating BJP. BJD polled 4,34,471 of the total of 10,83,869 votes polled. BJD won the seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
