It is a Rural constituency with an approximate literacy rate of 67.47%. There are 15,61,016 voters of which 8,06,746 are male and 7,54,219 are female and 51 voters of the third gender.
Dalpat Singh Paraste of BJP (alliance: NDA) won in this seat defeating INC. BJP polled 5,25,419 of the total of 9,68,518 votes polled. INC won the seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
Shahdol goes to the polls in the 4st phase of the 2019 General Elections to choose the 17th Lok Sabha on Monday, April 29, 2019. The election results for the seat are scheduled for Thursday, May 23, 2019.
