It is a Rural constituency with an approximate literacy rate of 72.73%. There are 16,61,277 voters of which 8,44,869 are male and 8,16,317 are female and 91 voters of the third gender.
B N Chandrappa of INC (alliance: UPA) won in this seat defeating BJP. INC polled 4,67,511 of the total of 10,96,499 votes polled. BJP won the seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
Chitradurga goes to the polls in the 2st phase of the 2019 General Elections to choose the 17th Lok Sabha on Thursday, April 18, 2019. The election results for the seat are scheduled for Thursday, May 23, 2019.
