It is a Semi-Urban constituency with an approximate literacy rate of 63.09%. There are 17,21,990 voters of which 8,78,311 are male and 8,43,454 are female and 225 voters of the third gender.
Mallikarjun Kharge of INC (alliance: UPA) won in this seat defeating BJP. INC polled 5,07,194 of the total of 9,97,634 votes polled. INC won the seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
Gulbarga goes to the polls in the 3st phase of the 2019 General Elections to choose the 17th Lok Sabha on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. The election results for the seat are scheduled for Thursday, May 23, 2019.
