India was the host of the first ever Asian Games held back in 1951 in New Delhi. The 1951 Games also marked India's best performance. India had stood 2nd with 15 gold, 16 silver and 20 bronze medals. India's highest medal haul was in 2010 Guangzhou, with a total of 65 medals (that included 14 Gold). In the last Asian Games in Incheon, India won a total of 57 medals (11 gold, 10 silver and 36 bronze) and was placed 8th in the overall rankings. In the last 17 editions of the Asian Games India has won a total of 616 medals (139 gold, 178 silver and 299 bronze). Over half of India's gold medals (72) have come from athletics, followed by wrestling and kabaddi (9 each). India has dominated kabaddi winning all gold medals (7 for men, 2 for women). In the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games, India is sending a contingent of 572 athletes.
